Try a Gold Glaze for a Rich Old Look

Is there a color for walls that anything and everything can look great with? I believe that there is. I painted my huge living room a pale pale pink, called innocence. Sometime after that I discovered a wonderful product called glaze. Valspar (found at Lowe's) creates a line of metallic and other exotic glazes that I've found fabulous for creating many different textures and looks. My favorite one is gold. This product is gentle, yet it is definitely metallic, but subtle and rich. One can use this product to produce a deep rich gold on a wall, or stroke it across a "stucco" look texture for immediate highlights, sponge it over most any color for adding elegance to any decor. I created on my "gallery" wall, a deep, rich texture, right over the pale pink.

I did several things after putting the glaze on with a roller, such as sponging directly into it with a sponge which is damp, not dripping, or even a piece of cardboard laid into the wash, and moved to create a shape like sun-rays in your texture. A little goes a long way!

The paintings then sang out after being placed on the wall against the gold. People notice the paintings now where before they were just there. But think: Say your colors are mostly neutrals. Put that against a subtle gold background, and it sings. Or if you love floral prints with just a hint of yellow in them, against a gold wall it's an instant success. Metals are in, and we see them being used in the new "industrial" look, but there are so many more uses for them... they can spice up any room, any decor. The other walls in my living room are done to look like old walls, the Tuscany feel. Looking straight at it, you get this warm feeling of warmth, but as you move around the room, and the light glistens on the wall, it is definitely rich and elegant. Try GOLD!
